She finished up day 3 and shared her thoughts with you!
Continue reading about her 3rd day.
Day 3:
Sleep is such a precious thing. Blissful, restorative, numbing sleep. And if there is one thing you will get on a juice cleanse, it is sleep. I learned from other "clean eating" programs (and this is a grossly broad statement) that when your body adjusts to burning off different "types" of energy, sleep is the most important aspect of helping it to do that.
So. Make time for sleep!
Since I started the cleanse I've gotten a lot of feedback on whether or not cleanse's are "good' or "bad." I reject the notion that it is an ultimatum and frankly think it is funny when folks that have never (and who claim they will never ) try a juice cleanse have an absolutist opinion on it. Not unlike many things we deal with these, days, Amirite?
A juice cleanse is not unlike any other experience you might have when it comes to making conscious decisions about what to put into your mouth. So I invite you to suspend disbelief and focus on one thing only: what would your objective be? The only thing worthwhile to think about is your goal.
And let's dispell the notion here and now that a 3 day juice cleanse is a weight loss system. I argue that it decreases inflammation and reduces water retention, but perhaps when looking at your nutrition goals that isn't one we want to put at the top of the list.

Any rational person knows you are not going to "lose" 15 lbs in 3 days. Physics and biochemistry can sit down and have a chat about probabilities. Who knows how much detoxification goes on that would not have happened in a different eating program that includes plant fibers? I did not see any exacting research on it but it wasn't part of my personal objective so I would be remiss to make that particular argument as well. I am open to seeing more research there, though I do know that new research is coming out every day on various benefits to all sorts of different means of relaxing your body's digestive function, fasting and cleansing included.
To boot, people have been fasting for various reasons for thousands of years. Three days will never hurt you.
So I go with the experimental approach. try it. See what happens. If you're miserable, you're miserable (though if you read my day 2 post you'll note that I personally encourage you to eat clean for a while beforehand. It will help tremendously!). If you feel fabulous, good for you! Either way one thing you will accomplish absolutely is to give your (likely) over-worked digestive system a deserved break.
One final note and then I will give you what you have probably been waiting for. I also read that there are pre-packaged mail-order juice cleanses and the like. I made a couple of observations. Postmodern thought through this cleanse very, very carefully. Part of the reason I craved the Cashew Milk throughout the cleanse is because it was loaded with Omega 3 and 6 fats. Read: The Postmodern Cleanse Includes Extremely Important Fat. If you have questions about fat in your diet I encourage you to contact Mind Your Body Oasis or Postmodern for nutrition counseling. Having fat in the cleanse superficially reduces hunger but this type of balanced fat is crucial in whole-health.
All of the Postmodern juices were also freshly cold-pressed. Nothing I consumed had been made longer than 5 days in advance. To me, this meant that I was getting the prime time for all of the delicious fruits and veggies in the cleanse. You will notice this the most with the green juice. It always felt like the most "fulfilling" juice, if that makes sense.
Well I'm sure reading all of those thoughts is exhausting, you want to know "what happened," right? Here you go:
