Washington has some amazing places to practice yoga with the backdrops of some of the most prominent buildings and monuments in America. When traveling through the city for some yoga we at MindandBodyOasis.com suggest some of the places we have visited during our photo shoots. Fort Reno Park (http://www.fortreno.com/) in Tenleytown is secluded, has an amazing horizon view and they feature free concerts during the summer. It was also a great place to warm up on our photo shoot providing some nice silhouettes and rolling hills creating a European look for our back drop.
The National American History Museum (http://americanhistory.si.edu/) and yoga right on the mall is always fun. Yoga in Washington DC can be a challenge with parking so we suggest using the metro for all of our venues or on weekends parking is better. We stopped by the Monument for a classic group wonder women pose holding the monument up, this is a must for DC townies and tourists alike!
The cherry blossoms next to the Jefferson Memorial (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jefferson_Memorial) is a very nice and relaxing park adjacent to the memorial looking out over the Potomac. With plenty of easy parking this can be the easiest place to visit on Saturdays if you must drive your car.
Crystal City has been a main location for our photo shoots because Mind Your Body Oasis is located in the 1750 Shops of Crystal City. The Crystal City Water Park is a great location with a nice waterfall and beautiful setting creating a serene environment to practice hot yoga in the summer sun. We had a great time and even got our feet wet in the waterfall, cooling off from a relaxing day. This is also the place where the 7am Summer Outdoor yoga hosted by CrystalCityBID.org and taught by Amanda Shipe, owner of Mind Your Body Oasis (http://www.mindyourbodyoasis.com/) took place May to September 2012.
Another spot in Crystal City is the Longview Park that hosts soccer fields and plenty of green space. We took head shots and yoga pose shots. The gorgeous day offered big, white, fluffy clouds as a backdrop to the many fun, group yoga poses we took. This park also hosted the 2012 summer’s outdoor Yoga for Singles events taught by Amanda Shipe.
