We are happy to announce the student of the month for April!
We are thrilled to announce that Be Sweetman has been selected as the Student of the Month for April!
A little about Be:
Be (Brenda) is originally from Flint, Michigan. She has lived in VA for 20 years now and also calls London her second home! She has worked in the event industry for almost 22 years and has done events for 3 presidents and produced more than 100 weddings! (George Clooney was her favorite client, not because he is so handsome but because he is so dedicated to his project and was so nice). Be's career in the event industry was great but an illness caused her to retire early. She is working on her second career now and is passionate about children, senior citizens and women's causes as well as animals. As a hobby, she has been connected to rocks and stones since she was 2 years old and she makes power jewelry. She is also an aspiring writer and blogger now! Be is lucky to work from home which allows her to fit in yoga everyday at MYBO!
Be has also danced off Broadway in 'A Chorus Line' and was a jazz overnight DJ for almost 2 years. Currently she volunteers as a theater teacher at an amazing place called the Sitar Arts Center in DC. She teaches Physical Acting to under privileged kids 5th through 8th grade. She is a performing arts junkie...Jazz Hands! Yes Please!! She can also do a mean Tracy Chapman!
She is blessed to be able to pursue her creative passions again at this time in her life with support from her husband and her amazing daughter. Be's regular practice of yoga makes her more aware of the world around her. It ratifies her belief in karma and cosmic energy. She has learned that anything difficult can be endured with something as soft yet as powerful as breath. The license plate on her VW Beetle says "Karma"! Seriously!
After recovering from West Nile Virus, Be practiced 42 days straight of hot yoga at MYBO. It changed her life. It gave her back the body she use to know. There was a time when her husband had to help her out of chairs and she had to crawl up the 19 stairs of her loft apartment to her bedroom. Be finds yoga challenging but the peace and satisfaction it brings to her life keeps her centered and calm. She is dedicated to her mat. Her mat and her breath always bring her through the tough times in her life.
Her life motto is: Viva Ut Vivas- Live life fully. Yoga helps her do just that.
A fun fact about Be:
She is a wanna-be harmonica player! She is fascinated with the connection that yoga and harmonica playing have through breath. She imagines the day when she gets to play during one of Soozie's classes. She will play, Soozie will chant!
Advice from Be: If you are thinking about making yoga part of your life?
Just do it. What I love about yoga is that you see every body type and all ages. I can stand on my head but I can't do the splits again yet and I can practice next to someone that can't stand on their head yet but can do the splits. It's a humanity equalizer. If you are reading this and thinking about giving yoga a try - just come to MYBO. It is a safe and beautiful place for you to immerse yourself in. Anyone can do yoga. It is a practice where you are your only judge. There is a code of respect for every BODY here. Just do it. Don't hold back. And when you are not in your home studio, you can do yoga anywhere. Yoga is a life practice.
