Congratulations to July's Student of the Month: Chyna Greer
Chyna is an Analyst for the United States Marshals Service. A true local, she was born and raised in Maryland, and has lived in the area for most of her life. She enjoys being physically active whether it's "yoga, Pilates, weight training, group fitness classes—pretty much anything that allows me to move my body and work up a sweat. I also love to read, cook (especially when I find new gluten- and dairy-free recipes to try), and spend time with my friends."
The one thing you didn't know about Chyna before: I played men’s lacrosse for 5 years.
Chyna is motivated to practice regularly because: I love the way yoga makes me feel about myself and those around me. Regardless of who you are and where you are on your path, yoga allows us all to come together and share a practice. There’s something beautiful about being able to experience this very personal and intimate journey in a room full of other yogis, who are each on their own separate, but similar, journeys.
For me, yoga is also the freedom to let go of everything else, take a breath, and come back to my own strength, ability, and light. My time on the mat is one of the few times I’m able to quiet my mind and allow myself to just be. I’ve become much more self-aware and self-forgiving.
To stay calm and centered in our busy, hectic world Chyna suggests: Remembering to stop and breathe. It’s a reminder that regardless of what’s going on in the world around me, I am in control of myself and my mind. It’s so simple, yet powerful, and is often what I need to reset and continue moving forward.
Considering trying yoga? Chyna says: Just do it! Among so many other things, yoga teaches you to live with love, and that’s something everyone can embrace. The love and energy from our MYBO family makes my world a much brighter place!
