Kristen's advice and perspectives: I think yoga is a great combination of mental and physical strength training. It offers me a dedicated time for peace and reflection (a welcome break during my regularly intense work days). I originally came to yoga for the stretching, but ended up staying for the meditation and nuggets of wisdom from the MYBO teachers!
The hot yoga sessions have really become my cup of tea! The majority of my yoga sessions are hot yoga sessions – my hair and skin have never been happier. My balance has also vastly improved. I am also able to take the peace cultivated on my mat in a yoga class out into the rest of my day. A bad day in the hot room is far better than a mediocre day anywhere else.
Yoga isn't just for contortionists and meditation gurus! Many people who give yoga a chance come to learn that the benefits reaped extend well beyond improved physical flexibility. For me, yoga is first and foremost breath and presence. When is the last time you gave yourself the opportunity to just Be?
The most effective thing to stay calm and centered in our hectic world is: Being mindful of breath, and enjoying the little things (especially outdoors). This spring has been really inspiring with its manifestations of new life – bright new blossoms, verdant lawns, sunshine, playful breezes. They are nice reminders that there is a whole world outside of that which occasionally or regularly causes us stress or worry.
